What’s an EAP?
Originating in the early 1900’s, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) were initially developed to address the problem of alcoholism and its costly impact on the workplace. EAPs grew in popularity throughout World War II as production demands pushed for increased employee efficiency. After the war, interest in EAPs diminished, ultimately to be revived by substance abuse issues of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Even though interest in EAPs had been revived, their primary focus remained the provision of counseling services for alcohol and substance abuse. It wasn’t until late in the 20th century that social and economic changes pushed some EAPs to expand the scope and focus of their services.
At Global Corporate Health Resources, our philosophy is that the well-being of an organization is closely tied to the well-being of its employees, and all of our EAP services support that concept. GCHR goes beyond the core service of employee counseling, developing an impressive variety of services deliverable at the organizational level.
EAP services are typically provided by the employer as part of the benefits package. GCHR provides assessment and counseling services to employees and household members for assistance in managing family, relationship, and work-related problems. Using a network model, we can offer clients over 500 choices in selecting a provider for solution-focused counseling. Counseling services are provided by master’s and Ph.D. level licensed professionals with expertise addressing the client’s specific issue.
Our services to the organization address both routine management concerns as well as complicated organizational issues. Each GCHR EAP service agreement is customized to reflect the needs of the particular organization it serves. We even make recommendations for service when utilization patterns suggest a proactive or preemptive approach.
